This picture shows the Hieroglyphic carvings on the temple of Isis on Agilka island in Egypt. The Egyptians called the script mdq ntr, which means "the word of the god". They thought that the signs had magic powers and could come to life. Later the Greeks called the script hieroglyphs which means "sacred sculptures"
