As size goes it was bigger than any lizard I have seen but smaller than a crocodile. Maybe one meter with the tail.

I would suggest you email some of the many web sites that specialise in them eg. John Fowler on the site reptilesofaustralia.com It would also be helpful to give some indication of size to help with identification. Hopefully it was not really a monster – that would be scarey!
