Stirling Ranges

These are the Stirling Ranges which we drove through three months ago on our way to Hopetoun. Time has flown by here and we will soon be hitting the road again and heading for Adelaide. We estimate it will take us two weeks to drive there and we hope to arrive before the end of the Adelaide Fringe on the 18th March.

In 2017 it was cold enough on the Stirling Ranges that snow fell, which is unusual for a state which is mostly desert.

Snowdon Route

This was taken on a family holiday to Wales in 2010. I used Camera RAW to process this image. I like to show what setting I use for each post unfortunately “Print Screen” does not record anything when the Camera RAW dialogue is open in Photoshop. I’ve managed to get round this by using “Problem Step Recorder” This is a bit of software which is included in Windows 7 and takes a screen grab each time the mouse is clicked. It saves them as heavily compressed jpegs but it is the only way I can show the settings I have used. I replaced the sky with part of this image because I wanted some more blue in it.

Welsh Pub

This is another shot from a family holiday to Wales last summer. I can’t remember the name of the pub but if you recognise it please leave a comment. Photoshop gives you many ways to make black and white images. I used Convert to Grayscale in Camera RAW. This allows you to adjust the brightness of each colour as it is converted. In this case the yellow tones were made brighter to lighten the beach and give a greater variety of tones in the vegetation.

Austrian Clouds

These are the Austrian Alps. It was taken on a family holiday in 2008. I used Camera RAW to do the heavy lifting then once in Photoshop I used masks to selectively adjust the colours in different areas of the image.

Sinai Coast

This is the Sinai coast in Egypt. After developing this image in Camera RAW it showed some nasty colour distortion in the shadow areas. It looks like alternate green and purple bands over the image. If you have this problem you can use this technique to fix it. Created a new layer and set the blend mode to color. Select a soft brush and reduce the opacity to 30%. Use Alt+left click to select a good colour from the image then brush across the stripes until they disappear. Try to sample lots of different areas so the image does not become monochromatic.

Llyn Llydaw

This is Llyn Lldaw on the way down from the Snowdon Peak in Wales. To process the image I used Vibrance instead of Saturation to bring the colour out of the bleak landscape. I then used various masks and adjustment layers add a bit more drama to each area of the image. High Resolution image is available here.

Austria Panorama

I took this on a family holiday to Austria in 2008. This Panorama was created from three wide angle shots. I used various blending modes to build up the image.
