These are the roots of an endangered species of tree known as a Springbrook Leatherwood. It is found in a single river catchment in the temperate rainforest crossing Queensland and New South Wales in Australia.

Banyan Tree

This is a Banyan which is a form of strangler fig. This particular type is the national tree of India although this specimen was in Queensland, Australia. It starts by growing on a host tree. If the host dies the fig is able to support both trees with aerial prop roots. The result is a huge nest of roots and branches which can cover several acres.

I am not sure what type of tree this is. If you have any idea please leave your answers on a comment. I took this shot in the Botanic Park in Adelaide, South Australia. To process this image I used a 50% High Pass/Overlay layer to bring out some extra detail in the tree and leaves.
