There seems to be no end of ways you can get around the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.

This form of ultralight aviation is called powered paragliding or paramotoring.

The aircraft can be used to herd reindeer, transport soldiers or hire to adrenaline junkies.

Sprint Boat

This is what happens when you strap a V8 to a dinghy. Today was round 2 & 3 of the Australian Superboat Champsionships. I was there with some friends from work (Panedia) because one of them had persuaded our boss to let him stick a bunch of cameras to a boat with a suction cup. The rig on the front is for 360 video and the one on top is for 3D video. Fortunately the yellow and black boat avoided any unscheduled aerobatics. The green and blue boat was not so lucky

Hydro Jetpack

We saw this Hydro Jetpack practicing near the bridge between Southport and Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia. The jetpack is powered by a jet ski via a long hose. This is the stable version of the water sport. Some ingenious lunatic managed to double the danger by attaching a jet ski to a board only in a similar way.

Barrel Racing

This is the Barrel Racing we saw at Canungra on Sunday. I experimented with various shutter speeds and found 1/500 sec to be about right. We are back at the Canungra showground this weekend to save some money after spending mid week at the Meriton. Next week we move to a shared house in Southport. We have been viewing long term accommodation recently and hope to sign a lease soon.

Festival Cycle

I had a phone call today telling me this image has won the Cambridge Folk Festivals Reward My Ride photo competition. The brief was to submit an image of green transport to the festival. I did not think the image was good enough for the photoblog but as its won me £300 to spend at my local cycle shop I think it has earned its place.

Wind Surfer

This is another shot from Dahab in Egypt. The sun was in the wrong place to illuminate the surfer so I reduced the contrast with a curves layer then used a mask to boost the saturation of the surfer. I then reversed the mask to desaturating the background and adding a slight tint with a colour balance layer.

Chariot Race

This is a Chariot Race at Jerash in Jordan. This is also where BBC’s “Top Gear” team had a sports car race in their 2010 Christmas Special. The guy driving the chariot has been used in many films due to his talent for taking corners without being in contact with the ground. The image itself did not need any drama added to it. I just did a standard level and curve to improve the contrast.
