Happy New Year 2022. I had a Hippy Christmas, listening to music in a native forest with a cell tower to myself. I would normally be chilling up a mountain at this time of year but it has been cool enough to stay in the subtropical lowlands where the internet is fastest. 2021 was a wet year too in Australia, this helped rejuvenate the natural environment after the fires.

As the world discovered in 2022, In the wake of disruption, you don’t get back what you had before. We must face the challenges of this new reality as the world continues to change. I hope this year’s existential threats can create solidarity so we can move forward together, as we did to take action on the hole in the ozone layer.

New Year

Happy New Year 2021. This time last year Australia was on fire and its leadership was absent. The world watched the country burn as over 1 billion animals died. After the main event of 2020 this island continent would be viewed as one of the global success stories. Hopefully, next year will achieve such a revolution for all. Best wishes to everyone, especially those in the UK who are currently suffering from their absence of leadership.

Happy New Year 2019. May your dreams come true. These are the Sydney new year fireworks. I left my van behind and took the train into the city from my temporary base in the Blue Mountains where I have been enjoying a relaxing Christmas with the Australian branch of my family.

2018 was the most photogenic year so far. It was also the start of my longest journey. In December I revisiting the last 8 months of travel pics to create 2 years worth of stock photography in a few weeks. This brought my total to 700 images at Shutterstock. This averages out to 1 a week from 14 years of photo submissions.

This year I will continue south until the March equinox which should put me somewhere in Tasmania for the first time. I will return to the Blue Mountains in April and resolve to have another 100 stock photos by then.

Happy New Year 2018 . We are back in the UK this year and celebrated 100 years of Finnish independence with friends in the village. This is the local pub illuminated with festive incendiaries.

Happy 4th July to any Americans out there. I have never photographed America so I found these fireworks which were taken at the 2014 New Year display in Sydney. To its credit, Australia managed to achieve independence from the UK and federation without having any wars.

Happy 4th July to any Americans out there. I have not photographed America so I dug out these fireworks which were taken last year at the Brisbane Festival in Queensland. To its credit, Australia managed to achieve independence from the UK and federation without having any wars.

For those of you still in 2013 Happy New Year 2014 from Australia. I took this shot of the New Year Sydney Fireworks from the tip of Cremorne Point. We had a clear 180 degree view of all 6 floating launch points plus the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. The only drawback to our location was a rising tide which temporarily blocked our way out. We both had a great time and wish you the best for the New Year.

Brisbane Fireworks

These fireworks were part of the Brisbane Festival in September. It must be said that in Australia they like them big. I have photographed many displays in the UK after having early success selling this image on stock sites. I used the same settings 4sec, f11, iso100 which seems to get good results.

Our van has a new clutch after giving up on Springbrook mountain and we looking forward to seeing the Sydney fireworks at New Year.

Happy Hootenanny 2013. Karen chose the colour scheme for this post. We both watched the awesome Sydney fireworks from the UK this afternoon then enjoyed a quite pint in the local pub. Wishing everyone a great year ahead!
