Collins Street

This is a view of the 3rd and 4th tallest buildings in Australia as Photographed from the 2nd tallest. The centre building is 120 Collins Street, A postmodern style heavily influenced by iconic Art Deco buildings in New York. On the right is 101 Collins Street which also would not look out of place in a Ghostbusters film. This led me to make this composite by adding purple clouds in Photoshop.

The tallest building in Australia is not in Melbourne like these, nor is it even in a state capital. It is the Q1 on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Oz answer to UK‘s Blackpool tower.

Victorian Parliament

This building is Melbourne Parliament House in Victoria, Australia. From 1901 to 1927 it was used by the National Government before it moved to Canberra. In that time the Victorian Parliament met at the Royal Exhibition Building.

Umbrella Rainbow

These colourful umbrellas were inside a building in Melbourne, Australia. My camera struggled to guess the white balance as there was very little neutral grey to calibrate with. One of the benefits of shooting in RAW is you can set the colour temperature after you take the photo. In this case I could remove the blue/green tint by increasing the red/magenta in CameraRAW. No Photoshop needed.

Melbourne Streets

This night shot was taken of Melbourne in Victoria. To process this shot maximum desaturation was used on the greens, blues and purples. To help the taxis stand out the saturation of the oranges and yellows was increased.

Like many recent posts, this was taken last year. I have been developing RAW files from my archive as our UK stopover has taken longer than expected. We have booked our flights back to Australia now and will be posting new images after we land on the 10th May.

Exhibition Building

This is a view of The Royal Exhibition Building from Carlton Gardens in Melbourne, Victoria. It was the first building in Australia to be awarded UNESCO world heritage status as it is one of the last remaining 19th Century exhibition buildings. Today it is the largest item in Museum Victoria’s collection.

China Town

This is China Town in Melbourne, Australia. We leave the city tomorrow after living here for four months. We plan to drive down to Phillip Island before going along the south coast then heading inland to cross the Great Dividing Range.

Model Melbourne

This shows Flinders Street Station, St Pauls Cathedral and Federation Square in central Melbourne. This shot was taken from the Eureka Skydeck which is Australia‘s tallest building. I used tilt shift to create the miniature effect. We are leaving Melbourne in one week and heading towards Sydney where we are looking forward to meeting up with some friends and family.

Kelly’s Armour

This is Ned Kelly‘s Armour which he used for his final gunbattle with the Victorian police in Glenrowan. He was captured after police realized they could not get through his armour so they shot him in his unprotected leg. The armour is on display at State Library of Victoria in Melbourne.
