Colosseum 1926

This started life as one of my Grandfathers Pictures from Rome, Italy in 1926. The Colosseum is so well photographed it did not take long to find a modern image shot from the same angle. Google maps has geotagged images which makes it easy. Once I had them both lined up in Photoshop I created a mask to reveal the modern image.

Ciao ai miei lettori italiani. I’m not sure why this blog has had more visits from Italy in the last month than any other country. Especially as I’ve never photographed Italy. All I can offer is this one of my Grandfathers Pictures which was taken in Duomo Square, Syracuse in 1926. I used Red Sepia Split Toning to add the colour.

It’s been a week since my last post as I’ve been kept busy making Avatars of friends for their facebook profiles. This is the second of my Grandfathers Pictures. I can’t tell you much about it other than it was on a glass slide. If you recognise the beach please feel free to comment. I cleaned the dirt and scratches using the spot healing brush and clone stamp tool. Then the image just needed a single tone curve to make it more defined.

This is Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence Italy in 1926. The original photograph belonged to my Grandfather. I used a levels layer to expand the tonal range of the scan. By moving the white point down and the black point up it ensures you have strong blacks and bright whites in your final image.

I then used clone and spot healing tool to clean up the marks and scratches.
