Cedar Getters

This engraving was carved into the rock by ‘cedar-getters‘ in 1886. Australian red cedar trees were so valuable that they kick-started a timber industry, in what is now the Border Ranges National Park in New South Wales.

Magic Bus

This is the Magic Bus. I have seen it a few times but this is the first time I photographed it. Karen was driving my van at the time and I shot it through the windscreen with the camera shutter set to 1/1000sec. I used Photoshop to remove some reflections. This 72 seat double decker is a bus for hire, servicing Byron Bay, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Mulgildie Pub

Tonight we are staying outside the Mulgildie Pub in Queensland. I am starting to notice a trend developing in Karen’s choice of campsite. I can hardly complain as pubs in Australia have everything a traveller on the road could need. This one arrived on the back of a train from Gayndah in 1927.

Given today’s verdict in the UK I wonder if Sydney will remove this piece of Street Art by Rolf Harris. It was still in Australia near the Harbour Bridge when this was photographed in 2012.

Southport Streets

This Street Art was done by Greg McDonald as part of the Southport Urban Art Project Gold Coast. I imagine they hope to emulate the drawing power of Hosier Lane in Melbourne. They certainly add some colour to the city.

Melbourne is renowned for its street art. You don’t have to go far to see examples and it always seems to be of a certain standard. Maybe they remove anything which is not up to scratch. It is a pity Melbourne‘s construction workers are not so discerning as one destroyed a Banksy last month during a cafe renovation. More surprisingly it is not the first time Melbourne has lost a Banksy.

News Flash: We have just experienced a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in Melbourne‘s Eastern Suburbs. 30 seconds of rumble and shake but everything is still standing.
