Shot Notes

Do you know what creature this is? I took the picture in the Bundaburg botanical gardens in Queensland, Australia. This was as far North as we got before we turned around to go to an interview on the Gold Coast. We are currently on the road heading for Nanango

There seems to be an overwhelming number of geckos in Australia. I would suggest you email some of the many web sites that specialise in them eg. John Fowler on the site reptilesofaustralia.com It would also be helpful to give some indication of size to help with identification. Hopefully it was not really a monster – that would be scarey!

Karen thought it was a gecko too but I thought they generally had fat toes rather than claws. As size goes it was bigger than any lizard I have seen but smaller than a crocodile. Maybe one meter with the tail.

I don’t think it’s a gecko — they are much smaller. I think it is some sort of iguana.

There’s an American company called Geico that uses a gecko (play on words) animation as its spokesperson. The fun thing is that it speaks with an English accent, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acCfnwTpdxU .
