Final Parade

This is the Cambridge University Eco Racing teams car, Helia, leaving the centre of Adelaide a few moments ago for the final parade of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. It has been an epic race of 3000km from Darwin in the Northern Territory to Adelaide in South Australia. It has been an honour to share the road with these amazing solar-powered cars and to meet the teams along the way. Their engineering and imagination have been awe-inspiring.

I will be continuing my journey east to the Blue Mountains but not before I have caught up on a week of sleep.

Happy New Year 2018 . We are back in the UK this year and celebrated 100 years of Finnish independence with friends in the village. This is the local pub illuminated with festive incendiaries.

Dew Web

This dew covered spider web was shot on a foggy morning in Cambridge, UK.

We are in the final stages of family farewells before we fly to Sydney, Australia in two days time.

Radio Telescopes

This is the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory. The telescopes move along rail track which used to take trains between Cambridge and Bedford.

Tomorrow we hit the road to Grantham, to continue our tour of the UK before we fly back to Australia next month.

Misty Morning

I saw these two swans on the river cam in front of Baits Bite Lock in the UK. You don’t often get fog in Australia (maybe in a Melbourne winter) so I was keen to go for a walk to capture the effect of the light.

Three Tits

These long-tailed tits and great tits seem to be a lot more common in the UK this winter. I think they may have benefited from the drop in the bird population of sparrows this year.

Cambridge Night

I was hoping to get a night shot of Kings College Chapel but unfortunately it was not lit up. Instead I used a street light which illuminated the College further down the road.

Festival Cycle

I had a phone call today telling me this image has won the Cambridge Folk Festivals Reward My Ride photo competition. The brief was to submit an image of green transport to the festival. I did not think the image was good enough for the photoblog but as its won me £300 to spend at my local cycle shop I think it has earned its place.
