Collins Street

This is a view of the 3rd and 4th tallest buildings in Australia as Photographed from the 2nd tallest. The centre building is 120 Collins Street, A postmodern style heavily influenced by iconic Art Deco buildings in New York. On the right is 101 Collins Street which also would not look out of place in a Ghostbusters film. This led me to make this composite by adding purple clouds in Photoshop.

The tallest building in Australia is not in Melbourne like these, nor is it even in a state capital. It is the Q1 on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Oz answer to UK‘s Blackpool tower.

Abandoned Observatory

This is the Middle Island Underwater Observatory off the coast of Queensland, Australia. It was refurbished and re-opened in 2007 so visitors could descend six metres below sea level to view coral and fish including honeycomb cod, flowery cod, damsel fish, moon wrasse and gropers. It looked as if it had been abandoned again when this photograph was taken in 2016.

Burleigh Heads

This is the view of the Gold Coast from Burleigh Heads in Queensland, Australia. Today was the first time I have seen the skyscrapers from this side at night so I decided to get a shot of the lights. I was here to have dinner with some friends from Sydney. Great tapas was enjoyed by all.

Conception Cathedral

This is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Cienfuegos. Roman Catholicism is the main religion in Cuba. In 2015 Raúl Castro lifted a ban on people of any faith joining the Communist party. This ended the separation of Religion and Politics which has existed since the government declared itself officially atheist in 1961.

This photo was taken with an early compact digital camera EX-Z3 in 2004. It is also the first image I had accepted by Shutterstock for Stock Photography and is available for download here.

Southport Soaked

This is the end of the Southport Spit. It is an exposed location on a sand peninsula surrounded by the pacific ocean. It attracts news crews, photographers and locals anytime there is a big storm, king tide or east coast low. This shot was taken on a day when two cyclones hit the coast of Australia. Cyclone Lam in the Northern Territory and Marcia in Queensland. Here on the Gold Coast it had been raining heavily for two days when the high tide here coincided with the arrival of the storm.

Surfers Paradise

This is the beach along Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia. I took this as we walked there last month to see the Lego. The lifeguards put up red and yellow flags to swim between every so often all the way along the Gold Coast.

Central Station

This is Central Station in Sydney. It is the largest train station in Australia. It started life as one wooden platform in a corrugated metal shed and is now one of the most impressive structures in Sydney alongside the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Since arriving a week ago I have been busy doing freelance Photography for ANCR. Yesterday I started shooting the redevelopment of the Royal Randwick Racecourse in the south-east of the city. After the shoot I decided to walk back to our base in North Sydney to get an appreciation of the scope of the city. Today I will be mainly letting my feet recover.

Perth Chogm

This image of Perth in Western Australia shows the preparations for the 2011 CHOGM(Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) and a giant public barbecue hosted by the Queen.

This could be a contender for the Australian Skylines Calendar.

Sydney Tower

This is the Sydney Tower in New South Wales, Australia.

I used Google analytics recently and discovered a boost in Benz World Blog site traffic. On closer inspection the extra traffic was a result of a doubling in the amount of Google search traffic. I opened an incognito browser and started Google image searching the blog titles. To my surprise over 60% appeared on the first page of images. A further 11% of blog titles put into Google came back as the number one image. I use two word titles for all posts. I hope one day to accidentally name a blog with a Googlewhack but for now I am very happy with these obscure Google number ones.

Telstra Tower

This is the Black Mountain Tower in Canberra, although all the Australians we met called it the Telstra Tower.
