Central Station

This is Central Station in Sydney. It is the largest train station in Australia. It started life as one wooden platform in a corrugated iron shed and is now one of the most impressive structures in Sydney alongside the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Since arriving a week ago I have been busy doing freelance Photography for ANCR. Yesterday I started shooting the redevelopment of the Royal Randwick Racecourse in the south-east of the city. After the shoot I decided to walk back to our base in North Sydney to get an appreciation of the scope of the city. Today I will be mainly letting my feet recover.

Arrival Sydney

We have arrived in Sydney Australia. The flights and connections all went smoothly apart from a fairly heavy landing in Kuala Lumpur and Karen temporarily losing her bank card at Sydney train station. All is good now and we are looking forward to catching up with our down under relatives.

Journey Begins

We hit the road today. We have a few stops in the UK before we fly to Australia on Thursday. We should be landing in Sydney on Friday evening. After arriving I will be able to post some new shots but for now I will use these road trains I shot last year as we crossed the Nullabor in Western Australia.

To develop this image the blue and green were desaturated in Camera RAW leaving a red spot colour.

Melbourne Streets

This night shot was taken of Melbourne in Victoria. To process this shot maximum desaturation was used on the greens, blues and purples. To help the taxis stand out the saturation of the oranges and yellows was increased.

Like many recent posts, this was taken last year. I have been developing RAW files from my archive as our UK stopover has taken longer than expected. We have booked our flights back to Australia now and will be posting new images after we land on the 10th May.

Rundle Lantern

This is the Rundle Lantern in the centre of Adelaide in South Australia. It has 748 panels which are illuminated with solar powered LED’s which can produce millions of colours. You can even create your own animation to be shown on the building.

Perth Chogm

This image of Perth in Western Australia shows the preparations for the 2011 CHOGM(Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) and a giant public barbecue hosted by the Queen.

This could be a contender for the Australian Skylines Calendar.

Fractal Owl

This bird is a Tawny Frog Mouth Owl. The animal was in a nature park near Melbourne in Victoria, Australia.

To process the image I ran fractalius several times and built up the image with layers and masks.

Exhibition Building

This is a view of The Royal Exhibition Building from Carlton Gardens in Melbourne, Victoria. It was the first building in Australia to be awarded UNESCO world heritage status as it is one of the last remaining 19th Century exhibition buildings. Today it is the largest item in Museum Victoria’s collection.
