Notorious Evening

Last weekend we welcomed the return of the ‘Notorious’ and her crew to Queensland. This hand built ship is both labour of love and home to Captain Graeme Wylie and his wife Felicite. They had been invited here for the Gold Coast International Marine Expo. Their arrival caused a big stir as Southport is currently surrounded with active film sets for the new “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, “Dead Men Tell No Tales.” I was keen to get a shot of her out on the water, so we found an empty cruiser to steal aboard until the Expo finished. We emerged at sunset to help the pirate ship cast off, and watched as she gracefully drifted away into the night.

Pirate Ship

This ship is the Notorious. It is a replica of a fifteenth century Portuguese caravel made from reclaimed Monterey Cypress. Caravels were favored by pirates for their speed, agility and large holds. This one was designed and built by Captain Graeme Wylie over 11 years in Victoria. He now sails around the coast of Australia with his wife Felicite. We met them both this weekend, as they stopped on the Gold Coast on their way down to Sydney.

Fort Denison

This wood ship is approaching Fort Denison in Sydney Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. The island was originally home to a 15 metre sandstone rock. It was later quarried by prisoners to build Circular Quay. Today Fort Denison is a museum and home to more than a hundred birds.

Harbour Bridge

This is the Sydney Harbour Bridge which was opened in 1932 and has been nicknamed The Coathanger. We are in the final stages of packing in order to visit some friend and family in the UK. We plan to be back in Australia at some point next April. I have plenty of images to keep the blog going and plan to get some more up onto stock sites.

Endeavour Replica

This is a replica of James Cooks Endeavour which was moored at the Central Pier of Melbournes Docklands. The nights are long these days in Melbourne and my new job has been keeping me busy. We went to see local band Bonjah on Friday night who are made up from people I work with. We were also impressed with their support act Mitch Davis & The Dawn Chorus who had come down from Queensland. I was tempted to take my big camera to the gig and post the results but as alcohol was involved I decided against it.

Dahabia Jordan

This was taken in the port of Aqaba in Jordan. The colour of the sea was boosted slightly and I had to do a fair bit of sharpening to bring this beautiful dahabia out the mist.
